Artist Of The Week-Hayseed Dixie

Blog: Punk On

I like cover tunes or more specific, tunes done in a unique matter. I came across a little four piece band from the southwest that started out as an AC/DC tribute band, however, unlike your traditional tribute band, these guys do it in a genre they call "Rockgrass".

The band is "Hayseed Dixie" consisting of Barley Scotch on vocals, guitar and fiddle, Reverend Don Wayne Reno on banjo and vocals, Deacon Dale Reno on mandolin, guitar and vocals and Jake "Bakesnake" Byers on bass and vocals.

They released their first album in 2001 "A Hillbilly Tribute to AC/DC" and here's the song that started it for them.

With nine albums to their credit they started doing more originals around album number six including the following "She Was Skinny When I Met Her".

And off their latest album they are back doing covers.

I'm thinking I could get into "Rockgrass".

Run C&W is another "bluegrass" group that takes aim on popular music, generally the 60's/70's soul side of things. I know The Temptations never sounded like this.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plmxfD...
