Two pictures of the same scene, except one is in color and the other black and white. For me the black and white photo projects more of a feeling of a cold dark winter while the color gives a sense of being "warmer". Turning color photos into black and white is an easy task that can be done in camera or later with processing. Changing contrast and other elements can help provide a sense of mood for the subject.

I miss black and white photography. I think sometimes color takes the artistry out of it. Photographic artists like O Winton Link and Richard Kindig didn't rely on it to tell their story, but light, dark, contrast and setting.

I've always been a fan of black and white photography. I like how dramatic the second picture looks.

I like both. Colors are brilliant and I find them stunning in photography. However, sometimes black and white just fits better. Both of these images are beautiful, though they do convey very different moods. The color one is lively, like the crash of cymbals in a song, while the black and white seems stark and otherworldly.
The juxtaposition reminds me of Tim Burton's films, and makes me realize why I love his imagery so much. He makes use of scenes contrasting in this way, bringing out the most interesting aesthetic of each, yet allowing them to work in harmony. It's true art.
You take awesome photos, Frank. :)

B&W; are my favorite overall. I had a wonderful photography teacher who instilled in me, "hip shooting" which has always worked best for me. No staging, posing, trying to get the right picture.
Thank you Larry Deal!

Evokes two different moods in me completely. Both are great. I'd like to see the color shot again in late January, a reminder that Spring's coming!

Can we find Mr. Cone's prints for sale anywhere? I am awfully fond of the Black and White of Icicle River..
