Panning Time Lapse

Blog: Shutterday

Another trip to Ellensburg and another trip back. Blewett Pass always makes for some good photo opportunities, but slick roads and snow aren't great incentives to pull off the road and take pictures. So instead I thought I'd try and experiment. I took the panning head device and attached it to the tripod and set it up in the back of the car. Then I set the panning timer for 60 minutes and the camera to release the shutter every 2 seconds and headed to Wenatchee.

My hypothesis was the images inside the car would be stable and outside would be just a blur streaking by the windows, except maybe for the distant horizon. Well as you can see my hypothesis was just wrong.

The whole thing seamed together pretty well. The apparent shakiness or wobbling effect inside the car is created by vibration caused by the tires on the uneven road surface transfered to the tripod.

I added the warning only because my Mom said it nearly made her carsick watching the video.
