It started with a trip to the Town Toyota center to watch the Wenatchee Wild, with fourteen work colleagues and a teddy bear in hand. Probably the best value for money in town. Highly entertaining – a couple of scripted fights, penalties galore, and even the odd score. Well worth it if you have not taken the opportunity to support the team.
Sunday was the annual corporate Christmas party replete with Santa, speeches, and singing – yes Santa wouldn’t come until we all broke out into a chorus of “Jingle Bells”. I would have thought that he would run away quickly but in he came to the delight of the children.
Tuesday evening found me back at the center attending the GWATA social, for the technologically able professionals in the valley. Met some interesting folks, and participated in the silent auction, narrowly losing out on the golf round for 4. Wednesday evening I was out again socializing at the WV-BAH – Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours at Lighting Universe on Wenatchee Ave. Fantastic venue, and a perfect setting, to meet like minded professionals. Unbelievable door prizes this month as well, didn’t win one but as I don’t yet have a house it’s probably better not to win track lighting. If you are interested in developing your professional network, I can’t recommend this event enough.
Thursday I took a breather, took a day off of networking, and went to the gym for an extended session. Last night, found me at the “unofficial” happy hour at work, an opportunity to meet work colleagues from other departments.
I am delighted with the opportunities available to meet people in Wenatchee. As you know, I am new in town, and am trying to network and meet as many people in the community as possible to better do my job at The World. Please let me know of any networking events or meetings that I should add to my calendar.

Places in Wenatchee you won't find me:
GWATA social, for the technologically able professionals in the valley.
At the Wild, in the upper level. Tried hard not to have panic attack. Too HIGH!
Bidding on anything golf.

Lots of thoughts about networking or social events that you wouldn't attend - but what are a few that you would?
I am very keen to get as connected into the community as I possibly can be so that I am more effective in my role and because I genuinely enjoy meeting people.

Try out some of our local churches. Many host groups of various interests for people - knitting, bible studies, hiking.
Attend the PTSA of your children's school.
There are many clubs and organizations in this area. What are your hobbies? Do you want to volunteer with women who need help? Families that need help? Once your family is here and into their sports, believe me, there will be a lot of opportunities for you to be involved somehow with that sport - and you will meet lots of parents and families this way.

Of course I would recommend the Wenatchee Valley Enological Society. We have over 130 members and always welcome more. We try to educate members about wine and the wine industry, about foods that go with wine, and about responsible consumption of alcohol. We have a good time at our monthly meetings and we are friendly.
www.wenwine.org will tell you more.

G oldy - thanks for all of your ideas. I actually would like to learn more about contributing more back into the community -with either women or families so if you could point me in the right direction that would be great.
Joanne - I am definitely planning on learning more about wine in the New Year. I hope that my Napa/Sonoma wine connections can connect with your organization as well. Will pass on the details.

Hi Joanne. In my consumption experience, I found that food tasted much better with wine and that wine was much more enjoyable with food. End result: I simultaneously enjoyed both too much, too often, and ultimately had to make a decision with regard to my personal health. That wasn't easy because I have always thoroughly enjoyed great food and drink, but the excess girth that was apparent in most all of our friends and relatives really tipped the scale for both me and my wife. So today as we look forward to retirement in a few more years we find ourselves looking to do things that few of our family and peers will be able to do with us for a variety of reasons--many pertaining to their weight and general health. Now then, I don't fault anyone for enjoying great food and drink. Rather, I fault my own basal metabolism for not being able to keep up with my hearty appetite for both in later years. For those who can juggle it all and maintain a healthy balance in both their spiritual and physical health in all things related to this discussion, then you have both my admiration as well as my respect.
Cheers! Just make mine Sam's Choice Clear American, lol.
As for the ladies, you just might want to consider this...or not, depending on your personal point of view:

Oh, as far as the networking is concerned, I looked in earnest for all of you at the Hort Convention--to no avail I am sorry to report. :-(

Mavulous - Thanks for you post with respect to health risks. I do enjoy the odd, high quality glass of wine. I also promise to attend next year's horticultural convention in Yakima, if it's that good. I have a lot to learn - I have a notorious brown thumb, whether it be full acres or house plants.
Joanne - Will definitely look to attend an event in the New Year, the only one posted on the event calendar is on 21 January and is members only.
Next post will be from the other side of the pond as I fly out tomorrow am to spend Christmas with the family. Happy holidays all - and ring in the New Year (and decade) in style

I'm so glad you'll be back with your family at Christmas. Have a great time!
It is easy to become an Eno member: $15 per person a year. $5. for Jan-Apr. Membership begins in May.
Feb. 18 I'll be doing one on Petit Syrah. These are third-Thursday events unless it's a dinner.

I also suggest seeing if you can sit on a United Way Panel. It will not take too much time away from your day and the people you meet are amazing. I have developed some wonderful relationships and look forward to my time with the United Way every year. Alan Walker is always looking for people to help out with the United Way.
