The wrestling experiment

Nicholas Boersma, a junior at Wenatchee High School, had never wrestled in his life before Tuesday.
Boersma, a standout cross country and track athlete for the Panthers, was convinced to come out for the team by his buddy Justin Valdez, whose father Ed is the wrestling coach.
"It's tough, but it's a lot of fun. I like it," Boersma said.
Valdez said that the coaching staff was teaching Boersma the sport from its most basic principles.
"I still don't think he understands the rules," Valdez said. "At least he's in good shape."
When his new teammates were huffing and puffing through hallway sprints, he was cruising.
In practice, Boersma was partnered with Damon Sipe, who was doing a commendable job of showing a new guy the ropes.
"He said I was picking things up pretty quick," Boersma said.
Over the course of the winter, the Panther Post will check in with Boersma to see how his first season in wrestling is going.
