Eastmont back to 3A?
Blog: The Wildcat Word
December 1, 2009
After a two-year stint in Class 4A, it appears Eastmont is headed back to 3A for athletics.
The WIAA released its classification information Tuesday (link here), and with 66 schools making up 4A, 3A, and 2A each, Eastmont is at least two slots under being a 4A school (that number could go up if some of the undecided schools opt up). This would move the Wildcats back to a classification where they won a state title in track and made a state appearance in boys basketball in 2008.
Eastmont isn't the only NCW school that appears to be on the move. Entiat and Waterville will head back down to 1B from 2B, and Lake Roosevelt and Brewster will take their place in 2B. Think about that: the stellar Entiat and Brewster basketball programs will be moving down a classification. Sounds like some state title implications, if I may so myself.
Other news of note is LaSalle, which has made a living beating up on NCW teams in football, will opt up to 1A. The most intriguing thing about that situation is it could mean an eventual playoff football meeting between LaSalle mentor Jack McMillian and Cascade, where many readers will remember as the place he made his name as a coach.
Here's another side of the re-classification story from the Tri-City Herald.
Expect a more thorough look at the classification moves later this week in the sports section.

Eastmont back to 3A?
2 questions. 1) do you think Eastmont would opt up to stay 4-A and b) if they didn't what do you think a 3-A CBBN division look like? Or would we see a reconstituted Mid Valley League?

Eastmont back to 3A?
If you start with the top of the 4A list and count down 66 teams you will have the first division line. Then do the same with the 3A list and 2A list. With the 1A schools start with the largest 1A school and count down 65 schools. For 2B and 1B start with the largest and count down 62 schools. When you do that, you will have your classifications.

Eastmont back to 3A?
Doug, Eastmont has already decided to go into whatever classification they are placed into statistically. As for a CBBN 3A, there are seven potential teams from the current CBBN that would be 3A — Eastmont, West Valley, Hanford, Kennewick, Kamiakin, Southridge, and Pasco. Kamiakin is currently the 66th largest school on the state, making them 4A for the time being, but if one more school in the state opts up to 4A, it would get kicked down. Kennewick, Kamiakin, Southridge and Pasco are all undecided about opting up, however. As for Quincy, they're still in 2A, and I don't think it stands much a chance of being kicked down to 1A after all the opt-ups are accounted for.

Eastmont back to 3A?
I would like to see a 3A league back in Central Washington. It seems like it would work out with 7 teams.

It also looks like Lake Roosevelt will move down to 2B , This would create a smaller 1A C.T.L
