Fielding Hills cab, one of the world's best

Blog: Winemaker's Journal

Fielding Hills Winery's 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon was selected for a list of the top 100 wines in the world by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. The list is published in the December issue of the magazine that comes out this week.

It's the second consecutive year the winery's cab has made the list. Last year's 2007 cab release came in at number 39 on the world list and number 6 on the list of top Washington wines. The 2008 vintage came in at number 77 this year's list of top wines in the world. It's the only North Central Washington wine on the list.

Wine Enthusiast rated all five of Fielding Hill's red wines with scores of 90 points or better, putting them in the "exceptional" category. The 2008 cabernet received 95 points.

The cabernet also made the Seattle Times' list of the top 100 wines in the state, coming in at number 14. Also on that list were wines by Nefarious Cellars of Lake Chelan (2009 Stones Throw Vineyard Riesling), and Boudreaux Cellars of Leavenworth (2006 Merlot).

Fielding Hills is owned by Mike and Karen Wade and the Wade family of East Wenatchee. The grapes are sourced from their vineyards in Mattawa. Mike Wade is the winemaker. He's also general manager of Columbia Fruit Packers, Inc., owned by the Wade family in Wenatchee.

I couldn't be happier to see this kind of recognition for such good people.
