Wedge Mountain Syrah wins double gold

Wedge Mountain Winery brought home some impressive medals from the American Wine Society wine competition, held Nov. 6-8 in Portland.
The Peshastin winery won double gold for its 2010 Syrah, a silver medal for its Bourdeaux-style red blend Les Trois Etoiles, and a silver for its 2008 Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon.
Charlie and Maryann Mckee make the wine from grapes purchased from the Wahluke Slope and Red Mountain growing areas. The tiny winery makes only about 1,000 cases a year, nearly all of it sold from its tasting room on Saunders Road.
More than 650 wines from throughout the nation were entered in the annual competition that began in 1986. Only about 30 wines won double gold medals.
