WENATCHEE — While much of Central Washington was under a red-flag fire warning on Thursday, Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort received a dusting of June snow.
“It surprised me this morning,” said resort General Manager Josh Jorgensen. “... It’s not super common, but it happens from time to time.”
Part of the mountain saw temperatures in the 20s overnight, according to the Northwest Avalanche Center.
The resort’s last day of the season was April 28 — it also snowed that day — which begs the question: Was this the last snow of the season or the first snow of next season?
“We’re leaving that open to interpretation,” Jorgensen said with a laugh. “It’s a glass-half-full, glass-half-empty situation. We’re usually glass half full so we’re considering it the start of next season.”
