Mark Saturday morning on your calendar for the ninth annual Tomato Gala, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Community Education Garden, 1100 N. Western Ave., Wenatchee.
At the event, organized by the WSU Chelan/Douglas Master Gardeners, you’ll get to taste dozens of tomato varieties, including heirloom, hybrid, cherry and paste types; something for everyone. With ballot in hand, you may mark which ones you prefer, and perhaps varieties you may want to grow next year. Balloting results will be published in The Wenatchee World next week.
If you have gardening questions, bring them to the on-site diagnostics clinic table. Learn more about common tomato-growing problems and how to handle them as well as how to grow great tomatoes.
Our tomato-growing friends from Moses Lake — John and Nancy Bromiley — plan to be there and enjoy talking tomatoes with visitors.
A Master Gardeners Foundation sales table offers a great assortment of great gardening and kitchen items, such as herb scissors, tomato knives, botanical-themed dish towels, garden gloves, books and "dirt" soap (check that one out to understand it!)
The free event is part of the Third Saturday in the Garden series. This month’s sponsor is Rockscape Inc. of East Wenatchee.
