Waterville sun

The sun shining on the snowy hills of Waterville, with blue sky all around.

Dear Gabby,

Blue is my favorite. I love the blue sky. Why is the sky blue?

Dear Blue Sky Wonder,

Light actually has all the colors of the rainbow. Think of a prism, or a diamond ring; when you move it in different ways, you can see all the beautiful colors. You can attribute a blue sky to gasses and particles in our atmosphere. When light comes from our sun, it is scattered, and because the color blue has shorter, smaller waves, we usually see more of the blue than any other color.

Yours truly,
