The Waterville/Mansfield softball team lost twice to White Swan at home April 15 by scores of 22-13 and 10-9.
In the first contest, the Shockers had good offense but the Cougars got more runs. The second game was close until the final inning when the Cougars were able to score one more time than the home team.
Addy Tonseth led the offensive charge for Waterville/Mansfield in the first game. She blasted a two run triple in the second inning. Then, she added another pair of runs batted in on a single in the fourth to further the Shockers offensive cause. Evelyn Negrete also got a hit that scored two runs in the Shocker half of the second inning. Sarah Velasquez picked up a run batted in with a long out after she had singled in a run earlier in the contest. Ari Salcido knocked in a run with a double and pitched for Waterville/Mansfield. Drew Koenig brought Haley Henson across the plate with a run in the fourth stanza. Kaionni Burke got a hit which brought in two runs. Cora Dills got two hits and a run batted in. The game was close until the Cougars exploded offensively in the last two innings.
Having learned the ways of White Swan in the first game, the Shockers rallied in the sixth inning of the second game but fell one run short. Salcido was the offensive power for Waterville/Mansfield going four for four at the plate, including a big three bagger and knocking in three runs. She also pitched the entire second game. Sarah Velasquez was a big hitter as well with three hits in four at bats and two runs batted in. Laura Shriner had two hits that brought in Shocker runners in the second and fifth innings. Cora Dills got two runs batted in on a hit in the first inning. Both Haylee Newcomb and Addy Tonseth got hits as well.
Waterville/Mansfield plays at Warden April 23 and at home against Soap Lake April 30.
