The Waterville/Mansfield girls volleyball team closed out the season last week meeting Soap Lake on the road Oct. 18 and then Bridgeport at home Oct. 20.
The Eagles on Tuesday got out to a big lead in the first set and never looked back. The Shockers fought hard but took the loss to Soap Lake 3-0. Set scores were 16-25,14-25,16-25.
Highlights for Waterville/Mansfield were Hannah Hughes (4 aces, 2 assists), Rochelle Laney (2 kills, 1 dig), Ali Mires (1 kill, 1 dig), Sarah Mullen (1 kill, 1 dig), Alyssa Hansen (1 kill), Jessie Ring (1 kill), Ari Salcido (2 kills), Justine Clements (2 assists).
On Thursday’s season-ending match, Waterville/Mansfield defeated the Fillies in five sets, taking advantage of Bridgeport service errors to take the win 3-2. Set scores were 18-25, 25-20, 25-23, 17-25,18-16.
The sets went back and forth, neither team was able to develop a sizable lead over the other. Bridgeport had 41 kills as a team and only six errors, but it couldn’t undo the momentum swings they handed to the Shockers with their 18 service errors.
Highlights for Waterville/Mansfield were Alyssa Hansen (1 ace, 1 kill), Ari Salcico (1 ace, 2 digs, 4 kills), Hannah Hughes (2 aces, 5 assists, 3 tips, 1 block), Ari Mires (1 ace, 1 dig, 3 kills, 1 assist, 1 tip, 2 blocks), Rochelle Laney (3 aces, 1 dig, 4 kills, 1 tip), Justine Clements (3 aces, 2 kills, 9 assists, 1 tip), Sarah Mullen (1 dig, 2 kills, 1 block), Basi Jimenez (1 dig, 2 assists).
“These girls have worked hard and come so far,” said coach Shae Parker in an email. “Coach Hughes and I are so proud of each and every one of our Shocker athletes and look forward to what the future holds them all.”
It was also senior night honoring players Rochelle Laney, Basi Jimenez and Drew Koenig, who played their last game as Shockers.
“As a first year coach, it was so great to have the opportunity to coach such an awesome group of girls. Thank you for all your hard work, great attitudes and contributions to your Shocker volleyball team,” Parker added.
