Waterville/Mansfield completed its 2016 season on May 5 with a doubleheader loss to Mabton, 12-10 and 13-3. The Shockers dropped a pair of games to Almira Coulee-Hartline (ACH) on May 3. The scores were13-3 and 17-2 . A win in either game against Mabton would have put Waterville/Mansfield into the playoffs.

Against ACH in the first game, Ari Salcido brought Evelyn Cazeres in with a run in the third inning when she got a hit to left field. In the next inning, Alyssa Hansen smacked a hit to right field that brought both Laura Shriner and Cazeres in to score. Cazeres had two hits in two at bats and Hansen was two for three. Smart base running got the Shockers two runs in the second game. Evelyn Negrete was hit by the pitcher and got on base in the first inning. She managed to get around the bases, and when Kaionni Burke got a base on balls, Negrete sneaked in to home base for a run. Burke followed suit by scoring, as Hansen ran to first, when the ACH catcher dropped the ball.

Against Mabton, Waterville/Mansfield made a gallant effort, especially in the first game, but ended up on the wrong side of the score. In the first inning, Addy Tonseth got a hit and came in to score when Salcido followed her with a run scoring blast. In the third, Sarah Velasquez singled, then scored on a Tonseth hit. Tonseth came across the plate when Hansen singled. Salcido scored when Drew Koenig hit the ball to left field and Haylee Newcomb’s hit brought Hansen across the plate. The run fest ended when Laura Shriner’s hit scored Koenig. In the following inning, Cazeres hit and Tonseth walked. Hansen brought them both across with a sharp single to left field. In the final stanza, Velasquez and Cazeres both singled and Salcido brought them in with a booming double to center field. In the game Velasquez, Hansen and Cazeres had three hits in five at bats. Tonseth and Salcido both had two for four. Shriner got a hit in two at bats.

In the last game with Mabton, all the Shocker scores were in the first inning. Hansen hit, then Patty Garnica brought her in for a counter. Salcido’s long single brought Garnica around the bases for a run. Salcido scored on a long out by Cazeres. Hansen and Garnica went two for two in the game. Salcido made her contribution with one hit in one at bat.

The Shocker season ended with five wins and fourteen losses.
