The Waterville/Mansfield Shocker girls and boys basketball teams made their first road trip of the season to Brewster Dec. 3.
The girls varsity lost to Brewster, 61-33. The score was 8-10 after the first quarter but in the second and third quarters, the Bears pulled away. They were led by freshman Brooklynne Boesel, who scored 19 points total in those two quarters. Rochelle Laney led the Shockers with 12 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Sarah Mullen also had 4 points off the bench as did junior Alyssa Hansen.
Head coach Kieth Finkbeiner said, “Overall, we didn’t execute offensively well enough to win and defensively didn’t play as sound as we need to against a good opponent like Brewster.”
The Shocker girls junior varsity lost 47-34.
The Shocker varsity boys team fared about the same, losing to the Bears 63-25. In the first quarter, the Shockers only scored 4 points and the second quarter 10 points. They were shut out in the third quarter and the fourth quarter scored 14 points. It was just not enough. Top scorers were Johnny Mullen (9), Jeramiah Preugschat (4) and Devyn Klinginsmith (4).
Head coach Heath Jordan said, “Brewster has a really good man-to-man defense. Our boys did do well in rebounding. The boys learned a lot from this game and a different type of play.”
The Shocker boys JV lost 63-51.
