These forums are intended to facilitate community discussion and debate on a variety of subjects. We want such discussions to be as open and unfettered as possible, we expect all participants to abide by certain Forum Standards.

If you feel a thread, comment, review, or a particular user is getting out of hand and a moderator needs to step in, please flag the comment for us to review.

Forum Posting Policy

You cannot upload to our websites, or distribute or otherwise publish through them, anything that is libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic or abusive, or that otherwise violates any law. The is not obligated to honor requests to remove posts except when such postings violate our editorial and business policies. The forums can be used only in a noncommercial manner.

While we do not and cannot review every message posted in our varied online forums and are not responsible for the content of messages posted by anyone other than direct employees of The World Publishing Company, we reserve the right to delete, move, or edit messages that we deem abusive, defamatory, obscene, in violation of copyright or trademark laws, or otherwise unacceptable. We reserve the right to remove the posting privileges of users who violate these standards of forum behavior at any time.

Repeatedly posting off-topic messages or "spamming" our forums by posting the same message in multiple topics or otherwise deliberately disrupting our forums is unacceptable behavior that may result in the user losing all forum privileges and access to our site(s). We reserve the right to prohibit users who in any way violate acceptable forum behavior from participating in our discussions. Users remain solely responsible for the content of their messages.

Forum Posting Etiquette

When discussing a news article or other posted content from any of the websites, please refrain from reprinting the entire content in your post(s). Excerpts from articles are fine, and linking to external articles is encouraged.

Audio and JavaScript files are not allowed in the forums nor is the use of graphics except blog authors who can include graphics in their posts. Sharing of photos can be done throughout the site and user-submitted photos will be displayed in a variety of galleries.

Inappropriate Forum Behavior

You agree not to post messages or other content or send emails with any illegal or harmful content, including but not limited to content that:

  • infringes copyrights, trademarks, publicity or any other rights of others;
  • is defamatory or libelous;
  • is abusive, harassing, or threatening;
  • is obscene, vulgar, or profane (including obfuscation of words or acronyms);
  • contains a virus or inhibits another person's enjoyment of the website;
  • violates someone's privacy;
  • impersonates anyone (actual or fictitious), is known to be inaccurate or contains a false attribution;
  • is racially, ethnically, sexual-orientation, or religiously offensive;
  • is illegal or encourages criminal acts; or
  • could expose to liability.

We reserve the right to delete, remove, edit or move any message that we deem, in our sole and absolute discretion, to be inappropriate.

Public Communications

You acknowledge that the electronic forums are accessible to the public and are not private communications, so others may read your communications without your knowledge. We encourage all forum users to always use caution when giving out any personally identifying information about yourself, your children or others. In addition, we do not endorse and cannot confirm the accuracy of any advice offered through the forums. Your e-mail address may become public when you participate in electronic forums, if you choose to include it in a post. Please also understand that we reserve the right to disclose whatever personal information we may have about you as deemed necessary or appropriate to satisfy any law, regulation, legal process or governmental request.

Use of Information

In using the online forums, you might obtain information about other users. You agree not to use that information in any way that you know or should know would cause direct or indirect harm or inconvenience to those people or anyone else.

Comment Approval Guidelines

The Wenatchee World encourages users to comment on stories, blogs and other content posted on our website. But we require such commenting to be done in a civil and constructive manner and under the user’s real name or under a name that connects to the user’s real name.

Comments from users must receive approval from a moderator before being published. Moderators will approve comments as quickly as possible. On weekends, staffing is greatly reduced in The Wenatchee World newsroom, so comment approval is likely to be slowed.

Users who submit comments that are not approved will not receive notification or explanation as to why. Looking over these general guidelines for comment approval may help users understand why a comment was not published.

Potentially libelous: Libel is not always clear-cut but overall it involves making accusations against a person, business or institution that are false and damaging. We will not seek legal opinions on comments to see if they are libelous but will not approve comments that we suspect could be libelous.

Profanity/sexual references: Profanity and blatant sexual references will not be allowed.

Racism: Racially charged words, descriptions or stereotypes will not be allowed.

Staying on subject/threadjacking: If comments are clearly about issues not covered in the story they will not be approved. Attempts to begin a discussion about something not involving the story will not be allowed.

New information/rumors: If a commenter claims to have inside knowledge on a particular issue that is not covered in the story they are advised to contact the story’s author. Information not in the stories will not be allowed to be posted as fact or rumor unless we have verified the information ourselves.

Trolling: Trolling involves making a comment obviously designed only to get a reaction. Rather than civil, constructive discussion, trolling attempts to incite anger or other reaction will not be approved.

Name-calling/personal differences: We will not approve comments that resort to name-calling, either of commenters or people in the stories. We will not allow people commenting to attack each other.

Insensitivity: Sometimes, we publish stories about personal tragedies or very difficult moments in people’s lives. Respect should be shown to the people involved. We will not allow comments that appear insensitive to grieving family members or others involved in these stories.

Crime stories: When someone is arrested and charged they still are presumed innocent until convicted or they plead guilty. Comments on stories should not flatly claim the guilt of a person unless they have been through the court system.

Advertising/promotion: Comments obviously designed to promote a product, business, political cause or such will not be allowed.

Private businesses: We will not allow comments involving personal dealings with private businesses or criticisms of businesses not directly related to a story.

Complaints about comment moderation: Posting complaints about comments that were not posted will not be allowed. Please contact the Wenatchee World newsroom with such complaints.
