The Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum will open its doors for a free open house celebration on May 26.

The Nutcracker Museum in Leavenworth will host a free open house May 26 to celebrate its 26th anniversary after remodeling the museum space.

The Nutcracker Day open house is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Event festivities are to include a nutcracker hunt, drawings for local swag, door prizes and hazelnut cracking, according to a museum brochure.

“It’s a huge deal,” said Christina Zucktriegel, Nutcracker Day chair and museum board member.

The remodel added a new wood and wrought-iron staircase in the middle of the museum building, she said.

Visiting guests can check out a store at the museum, the Greater Leavenworth Museum, as well as the Nutcracker Museum all in the same building.

Open house prizes will be given out to guests about every 30 to 60 minutes, Zucktriegel said.

The museum will also have free nutcracker chocolates from local chocolate shop Schocolat for anyone who stops by. Visitors can also expect to hear live music from a crank-operated barrel organ.

The Nutcracker Museum is located on 735 Front St.
