QUINCY — Family and friends recently celebrated the 100th birthday of Frances Gregg.
Gregg was born June 25, 1914, in Covert, Kan., a tiny town now marked by only a monument. Her mother joked that she started World War I and her brother, born four years later, ended it.
“I was born in the horse-and-buggy days,” Gregg said. “I always felt sorry for the horses, especially when it was cold.”
Gregg’s parents were dry-land farmers who grew wheat and corn.…
