Growers take precautions to keep cherries dry

WENATCHEE — Helicopters, towable fans and even leaf blowers whooshed away the wet over the weekend as cherry growers took precautions to keep fruit dry as harvest nears.

“No rain damage yet,” said Roger Pepperl, spokesman for Wenatchee’s Stemilt Growers, which ships about 3 million boxes of cherries annually. “But producers are still taking steps to limit any potential problems.”
