WENATCHEE — The Kiwanis Methow Park revitalization project will kick off Saturday with a celebration and groundbreaking ceremony.

City Council last month authorized signing an approximately $2.7 million construction contract with East Wenatchee-based KRCI for renovations to the park at 420 Methow St. The park is expected to open by November.

Improvements will include a turf soccer field; larger, shaded playground; a pavilion known as a kiosko; market plaza and community garden; restrooms; accessible sidewalks; renovations to the alley north of park; improved lighting; and new landscaping.

The schedule for Saturday:

11 a.m., free lunch and discussion on park access at the Wenatchee Community Center, 504 S. Chelan Ave.

1 p.m., park groundbreaking; free tamales, paletas and aguas frescas.

2 p.m., remarks about planned renovations.
