EAST WENATCHEE — Fire burned brush and equipment near Pangborn Memorial Airport on Friday.

The fire was in the 600 block of Van Well Avenue, said Kay McKellar, spokeswoman for Douglas County Fire District 2. The fire was reported about 1:20 p.m. Friday.

Extra crews were called to assist with the fire about 1:40 p.m., McKellar said.

The fire was surrounded by roads and green orchards, which limited its ability to spread, McKellar said.

Crews contained the fire to about a quarter-acre of debris and firefighters were expected to remain on scene for several hours.

It’s not yet clear how the fire started.
