Investigators believe fire started on the porch of a Wenatchee home Tuesday and then spread to the inside.

WENATCHEE — Firefighters put out a small house fire Tuesday afternoon in Wenatchee.

Crews responded to the 1200 block of Utah Street to a report of a door on fire, according to a news release from Chelan County Fire District 1.

Firefighters arrived to find the front porch and interior of the single-story home on fire with smoke flowing from an attic.

One occupant told firefighters she discovered smoke entering the home under the front door, the release said. She didn’t open the door and instead exited through a back door. The homeowner wasn’t home when the fire started.

The porch and a portion of the interior sustained “quite a bit of damage,” said fire district spokeswoman Kay McKellar.

It’s not clear what caused the fire but officials believe it started on the porch, McKellar said.

Crews cleared the scene at 6:21 p.m. Douglas County Fire District 2 also responded to the fire.
