CHELAN — Authorities believe one person was killed Monday morning in a plane crash just outside the Lake Chelan Airport.

The plane landed about 6:30 a.m. in an orchard on Howard Flats Road adjacent the airport, said Jason Reinfeld with the Chelan County Sheriff's Office.

It's believed there was only one occupant inside the plane, Reinfeld said.

The National Transportation Safety Board is en route to lead the investigation.

Little information is available at this point, including the identity of the pilot, Reinfeld said.

An autopsy will be performed Tuesday, said Chelan County Coroner Wayne Harris.
