SUNNYSLOPE — A fire that started in a garage displaced two renters, leaving them without a home early Monday morning in Sunnyslope.

A caller reported the fire at 1:06 a.m. on the 300 block of Inks Road, said Kay McKellar, Chelan County Fire District 1 spokesperson.

The garage was on fire by the time crews arrived, she said. Flames spread to the attic of a nearby home by burning up an arborvitae tree.

Both residents evacuated their home without injury, she said.

A chicken coop also caught fire, taking five chickens with it, she said.

Firefighters got the blaze under control at 2:22 a.m., stopping it from spreading to a neighboring metal shop, she said.

Chelan County Fire Marshal Bob Plumb said the fire completely destroyed the garage and two cars.

The home is no longer habitable due to fire damage, he said. The home’s property owners are letting their displaced renters stay in another location nearby, he said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said.
