WENATCHEE — High tech took top honors Thursday at GWATA’s 2017 Innovator Awards Luncheon. Make that extremely high tech.

Dave Carlson with Giga Watt, a Wenatchee service center for bitcoin mining, took Entrepreneur of the Year Award, while Wenatchee’s Pacific Aerospace & Electronics (PA&E), specialists in the manufacturing of aviation and medical parts and tools, grabbed the Tech Savvy Business of the Year. CEO Ed Phinney accepted the award.

More than 360 business and civic leaders attended the 17th annual event, which focuses on use of technology in both commercial enterprise and education. The gathering filled the grand ballroom of the Wenatchee Convention Center.

The event spotlighted three outdoor recreation equipment manufacturers from around the region, including Lithic Skis, a custom-ski company from Peshastin; eqpd (equipped), maker of durable bags and carriers in Twisp; and CushCore, manufacturer of an inner-tire suspension system for mountain bikes.

Representative from each company joined a discussion panel hosted by Scott Paton, owner of Wenatchee-based Arlberg Sports.
