A worker wraps a string of lights around a branch on a tree in Leavenworth's downtown park Wednesday. He said work started on the project Oct. 14 and is scheduled to be completed on Nov. 15. The Leavenworth Chamber of Commerce hangs more than 500,000 lights in the annual display. The "Village of Lights," offered throughout the holiday season, replaces the previous Christmas Lighting Festival events that had been scheduled on December weekends. The idea is to spread out activities, displays and entertainment to avoid massive weekend crowds.
