Rustin Atkerson, 2, of East Wenatchee died from brain trauma consistent with abuse in 2017.

The state's child welfare agency last week reached a settlement agreement with the father of Rustin Atkerson, who died at 2 years old from a severe brain injury that his father argued in court could have been prevented.

Ian Atkerson sued the state Department of Children, Youth, and Families in 2020 under a wrongful death claim in Chelan County Superior Court.
