WENATCHEE — Police are investigating a Tuesday night alleyway garbage fire near Liberty Cinema on South Mission Street, which they suspect to have been arson.

RiverCom Dispatch received a call about a dumpster fire at 9:18 p.m., said Kay McKellar, Chelan County Fire District 1 spokesperson.

The fire spread to a door connected to the theater and damaged some overhead wires before firefighters put it out, she said. Crews then helped to ventilate smoke out of the theater, wrapping up work by 11:19 p.m.

No one was seen in the area of the fire when crews first arrived, she said.

Wenatchee Police Department Capt. Edgar Reinfeld said officers are investigating the fire, which is suspected to be arson. There was a video camera near the scene of the fire that hopefully will have footage, he said.
