On Saturday, a few hundred residents gathered in Methow Park in Wenatchee, drinking warm champurrado, a chocolate-based atole, and hot chocolate. At the same time, mariachi bands played traditional ballads and people learned how to get involved in the November elections.Â
Voters in Douglas County will decide who represents their interests on the Port of Douglas County District 1 commissioner seat. Mike Mackey is challenging incumbent Jim Huffman for the slot. Mackey served 12 years as a Port of Chelan County commissioner and Huffman has had his seat since 1994.
The East Wenatchee City Council has several empty seats currently, at least through the November general election, as Nikki Darling and Paul Harrison take a shot at their first elected term.
Candidates for Cashmere School Board, Position 4 answered questions from The Wenatchee World. Chelan County ballots are mailed out and the voting center opens on Oct. 17. Ballots are due by 8 p.m. Nov. 4.
