Dr. Art Ludwick's letters home as a combat physician in North Africa and Italy during World War II were related to Downtown Rotary members last Thursday.

The program was put together by Peggy Ludwick, daughter of Art and Jean.

He was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart, rather unusual for an unarmed physician.

She excerpted descriptions of daily operations from some of his 170 letters home. Art was a battalion and regimental surgeon, a lieutenant colonel with the 34th Infantry Division.
