State representative candidates for the 13th Legislative District are Alex Ybarra (left) and Steve Verhey.

NCW — If Tuesday night's results are any indicator, it looks like state Rep. Alex Ybarra, R-Quincy, will keep his seat.

Ybarra had received 14,403 votes (69.99%) to challenger Steve Verhey's 6,097 votes (29.63%). However, the winner won't be decided until the Nov. 5 general election.

There were 80 write-in votes, constituting 0.39%.

Ybarra, 57, represents the 13th Legislative District, which includes Lincoln, Kittitas and parts of Grant and Yakima counties. Verhey, 61, is chair of the Kittitas County Democrats.

The special election comes after county commissioners from the district appointed Ybarra in January as a replacement for former state Rep. Matt Manweller.

Manweller, facing sexual misconduct allegations, had announced his intention of resigning if re-elected. However, voters last year chose the Ellensburg Republican anyway.
