QUINCY — The Jackrabbits were off of a recent win over Tonasket on Thursday night when they hosted last year’s 2B Softball District Champions, the Lake Roosevelt Raiders.
Quincy hoped there would be enough momentum to carry one win into two. It was a tall order. Lake Roosevelt finished last year’s season in the state tournament with a 20-4 record.
Despite Lake Roosevelt’s strong start, Quincy showed resilience throughout the game and won 5-2.
“Lake Roosevelt’s pitching was amazing,” Quincy Head Coach Pauline Baughman said. “My girls kept playing from beginning to end and didn’t let up until the game was over.”
Quincy was down a run in the bottom of the first inning, when Michelle Acevedo walked. She worked her way around the bases to tie the game before the inning was over.
The Jackrabbits had a massively efficient game that garnered five runs on seven hits. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Emma Galloway knocked in the last two runs.
Emilie Morris, from the mound, only allowed three hits and two runs and struck out seven Raiders.
“We played the short game to get the players moving,” Baughman said.
Quincy improved to 2-0. Lake Roosevelt is now 0-1.
Quincy plays at Wahluke on Saturday for a doubleheader at 11 and 1 p.m.
