Bertis "Bert" Gene Drake, a longtime Wenatchee resident, passed away on January 20, 2011. Bert died at his home, surrounded by his wife, Estellee, their three children, grandchildren and close friends. He was born on November 28, 1934, to the late Thomas "Tom" and Ida (Martin) Drake in Ash Flat, AR. Bert lived his life to the fullest with his wife and children and grandchildren. Together, they camped, fished, hunted and spent a lot of family time together. He worked at Hannah Mining Company of Rock Island for 12 years. After that, he worked at Auvil Fruit Company as a Mechanic for 20 years, until he retired in 2000. Although his health was failing rapidly, he found enough strength and will to make his last big hunting trip last October, where he got his Big Buck! His last hunting trip was with his wife, son and three grandsons, Zack Drake, Dylan and Brandon Anderson, and several good hunting friends. Bert had a special hunting permit for a buddy hunt and grandson, Zack, was the one who got to help Bert get the last Big Buck. He was a wonderful husband and the greatest dad. He will be loved and missed so much from each and every one of us!
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Estellee (Fulbright) Drake; his daughter, Rosalie (Drake) Hale and her husband, Bob, of Wenatchee; son, Tom Drake and his wife, Sheri, of East Wenatchee; daughter, Renae (Drake) Anderson and her husband, Randy, of Rock Island; and adopted son from the heart, Glen Hardy of Canada. Home, AR and Lola Bowlin of Fayetteville, AR; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and his two favorite companions, Tina and Harley.
