Janet Kay Doty
Janet Kay Doty, age 69, passed away from a courageous battle with brain cancer on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at her home in Chelan, WA. On the sunny morning of January 26, 1942, Janet Kay Beeson was born to Mr. Simeon A. Beeson and Mrs. Ena Lillian (Moede) Beeson, in their home, along the South Shore of Lake Chelan. Janet was reared with her four older siblings, Simeon, John, Marion and Adele in Chelan, WA. She graduated from Chelan High School in the spring of 1960, where she had been active in the band playing percussion instruments. On March 31, 1967, she wed Robert Jack Doty in Chelan, WA, with a reception following at her parents’ home in Lakeside. Janet began her legal secretary career working for her husband on Woodin Avenue during 1967. Janet served her career position until they both retired in the winter of 1999. Janet’s love of horses began as an act of juvenile delinquency — she would take a rope and ride the neighbor’s horse without permission! In her early 20’s, she joined the Chelan Rustlers and purchased her own horse(s). She was a 4-H Leader of the Chelan Caballeros for some ten years. During those years, she and her husband, Jack, helped many kids learn about horses, overcoming their unique fears and readying them for the annual competition at the Chelan County Fair that is held each September. Janet also taught her 4-H’ers how to speak in front an audience by presenting their yearly demonstrations to the group. Next, Janet moved into the discipline of Dressage riding. She showed her horses in this event, moving up one level. She also enjoyed trail riding and was President of the Chelan Rustlers for one and half terms. Janet imparted her passion of horses to both her daughter and granddaughter. Together, in the summers, they would trailer around Washington State, showing in local 4-H shows and the Arabian and Quarter Horse Circuits. Janet enjoyed her passion for horses her entire life, grew to love rock gardening, was an avid reader and ‘No Ordinary Grandma’ to her granddaughter.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Kim Doty Martin of Mill Creek, WA; and her granddaughter, Alexandra Kate Martin of Mill Creek, WA. She also leaves behind her brothers, Simeon Beeson of Broken Arrow, OK and Marion Beeson of Wenatchee, WA; and sister, Adele Whitham of Moses Lake, WA. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 44 years, Robert Jack Doty; and brother, John Beeson of Chelan, WA.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the Little Stone Church in Chelan, WA. Arrangements entrusted to Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
