Juanita D. Thomas, 74, a 70 year Wenatchee area resident, passed away at her home in Wenatchee on Friday morning, January 21, 2011. She was born on December 16, 1936, at Spearfish, ND, to the late William Eldon and Iris Juanita (Morden) Alexander. At an early age, her family moved to the Wenatchee area. She entered and attended elementary school in Chelan briefly, before they moved to Cashmere and then on to Wenatchee. She attended school at what is now known as Cascade Christian Academy. Her first form of employment began as baby sitting, prior to going to work at Deaconess Hospital in the Cafeteria. She later worked in the Laundry Department at Colonial Vista Convalescent Center. On May 3, 1975, she was married to Oscar A. Thomas in Wenatchee. They have since continued to make their home in Wenatchee. Juanita worked seasonally in the area fruit warehouses, prior to starting her own child care in her home. They also became foster parents to several children through the years. Juanita especially enjoyed her grandchildren, making afghan blankets with love and care, crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by her husband, Oscar "Oss" Thomas of Wenatchee; four children and their spouses, Loretta Galindo of Wenatchee, Penny (Steve) Reyes of Wenatchee, Ozzie (Betty) Reeves of East Wenatchee and Donna (Roger) Barham of Orondo; two sisters, Darlene (John) Grimmett and Pearl (Bob) Balam, all of Yuma, AZ; two brothers, Earnie (Maudie) Broughman of Soap Lake, WA and Eli Alexander of Deer Park, WA; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one granddaughter, Crystal Loretta Galindo in 1987.
A Commemoration Service will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1201 10th Street N.E., East Wenatchee, with Pastor Jim Anderson officiating. The Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
