Lifetime Wenatchee Valley resident, Kathryn E. Mylius-Brown, 85, passed away on March 15, 2011. "Kay" was born October 13, 1925, to parents, Paul R. and Betty (Lindgren) Kyner. She attended school in Cashmere, where Paul was an orchardist, and she graduated from Holy Names Academy in Spokane, WA. After attending WSU for three years, she married John Gustav "Bud" Mylius on November 15, 1947. They made their home in Monitor, where Bud was an orchardist and Kay was a homemaker. In 1951, they welcomed their first daughter, Kathryn Lynn, followed in 1953, by Janet Gayle, and in 1958, Bud and Kay's family was complete with their last daughter, Patricia Jean. Besides being a devoted wife and mother, Kay was a beautiful seamstress. She made all of her clothes and those of her daughters and also served as a 4-H judge in sewing. Besides sewing, another passion of hers was watching ice skating. If you ever visited the Mylius home, one thing you'd notice would be their love of animals. There were always plenty of horses, dogs and cats. Kay, particularly, was a big dog lover. "Big" as in large dogs. She owned two Great Danes at one time and enjoyed showing them. When her youngest daughter was in high school, Kay decided to join the workforce to save money for college. Thus began her retail career: working in a fabric store, a department store and eventually owning a Diet Center in Cashmere. Kay's effervescent personality and energy attracted clients and co-workers who became lifelong friends. After Bud passed away on October 26, 1988, Kay joined the Kiwanis Club in Cashmere. She thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to meet new friends and serve the community. On July 11, 1992, Kay married local widower and author, John A. Brown. They enjoyed several happy years together until John's death April 28, 2004. Kay attended First United Methodist Church with John, and Trinity Church with Patty, until her health declined. She trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior and now is present with Him in Eternity.

Survivors include her beloved daughters, Kathryn "Kathy" Vetter, Janet Mylius, Patricia "Patty" Bogen; eight grandchildren; a cousin; and nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Paul R. and Betty Kyner; her husbands, Bud Mylius and John Brown; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul R. Jr. and Shirley Kyner; her sister, Mary Ellen Hebert; and a niece, Julie Schmitten.

A special thank you to Aaron's Adult Family Home and its caregivers; Hospice nurse, Teresa; Palliative Care Coordinator, Ginny Heinitz; and Dr. Dillon and the caring nurses at Central Washington Hospital.
