Steve Carpenter joined his Heavenly Father on April 25, 2011. Born February 27, 1952, to Allen and Ruth Carpenter in Morristown, TN, Steve was full of fun with family and friends. In his early years, Steve was active in sports, especially football. One of his most memorable moments was playing for the Morristown East High School Football Team and winning the 1969 Tennessee AAA State Championship. Immediately after high school, Steve joined the U.S. Air Force and was sent to Vietnam. Steve moved to Washington State in the mid 1970's, where he spent many years working in the timber industry. Steve married his love and wife of 30 years, Evie, on January 1, 1981. Steve went to work for ALCOA Wenatchee Works in 1983, and was an active employee for 28 years. Steve loved spending time with friends and family, especially his grandson, Jeremy. Steve was an avid and accomplished golfer and a member of the Leavenworth Golf Course.
Steve leaves many friends and family who cared about him, in both Tennessee and Washington. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Evie; daughter, Hallie Hendrickson of Wenatchee; grandson, Jeremy Burpee of Cashmere; mother, Dr. Ruth Carpenter of Morristown, TN; sister, Dr. June (Dr. John) Darling of Cashmere; half-brother, Don Carpenter of Nashville, TN; and nephews, Hoby Darling and Sam Darling and their families. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Allen Carpenter.
Steve's Celebration of Life and Military Honors will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the Leavenworth Golf Course in Leavenworth, WA. The celebration will be a time to share and enjoy the stories of his life. Steve will be Interred June, 11, 2011, in a private family ceremony at Tahoma National Veteran's Cemetery in Kent, WA.
