On March 3, 2011, we said good-bye to our mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Tommie. Her generous, ballsy, adventurous love and light will be dearly missed. She was born July 16, 1953, in Bloomington, CA to Thomas and Marie Shipley. The third child and only girl, she quickly learned to be tough and quick to keep up with older brothers, Wesley and Mike. She was kind and motherly to baby brother, Terry. After her defiant and fun years in high school, she bravely started her life as a mother to April Marie (now Senter) in the early '70's. She supported herself and her child working as a bartender; a job her humor, helpfulness and directness lent itself to nicely. She married the love of her life, Larry M. Miller, in 1977. Their new family moved, as work required, all over California, Nevada and Washington. Tommie's adaptability allowed the family to adjust to these moves. In the early '80's, they welcomed second daughter, Michael Miller. The family settled in Washington around then and she started her long career in the fruit industry. Tommie worked at area powerhouses Borton, Eaken and Witte. She had success in Women's Pool Leagues, taking home trophies for several years. Tommie was an incredible cook and loved to feed people. She prided herself in keeping her home nicely decorated with her impeccable taste. She was VERY proud of her six grandchildren. Tommie will be terribly missed by all who knew her. We hope to carry her memories, as well as honor her bravery, integrity and honesty.
A Celebration of her Life will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the family home, 64 N. James in East Wenatchee. Arrangements assisted by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
